Deadlift with Bands
The Deadlift with Bands adds elastic resistance to a barbell deadlift. The bands provide less tension near the floor and progressively more as the bar rises. The back, glutes, hamstrings, quadriceps, traps, forearms, and grip all contribute.
Training context
Before adding bands to the Deadlift
Band tension must be equal on both sides and anchored to equipment that cannot move. Short bands can run beneath the feet, while long bands require secure rack or platform attachment points.
Bands change the effective resistance throughout the lift. Record the band type and setup along with the bar weight when comparing sessions.
Technique overview
Secure the bands before approaching the bar
Confirm that both bands are undamaged, equally tensioned, and unable to slip. Set up as you would for the chosen deadlift stance, then push through the floor while keeping the bar close. Finish the hips and knees together without leaning backward. Lower under control because band tension will pull the bar downward more strongly near the top.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
