Exercise guide
Dumbbell Bench Press
The Dumbbell Bench Press is a flat-bench pressing exercise for the chest. The shoulders and triceps assist as each dumbbell lowers beside the torso and presses back upward. Because the arms move independently, the exercise requires more stabilization than a barbell press.
Training context
Muscles worked by the Dumbbell Bench Press
The chest produces most of the pressing force while the front shoulders and triceps help move and stabilize the weights. The upper back and lower body create a steady base against the bench and floor.
The dumbbells do not need to touch at the top. Keep enough separation to maintain shoulder position and control.
Technique overview
Keep the forearms beneath the dumbbells
Plant the feet and settle the shoulder blades against the bench. Lower both dumbbells evenly with the forearms close to vertical. Press upward without allowing one side to drift ahead of the other. Use the thighs or assistance to enter and leave the position safely with heavier weights.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
