Dumbbell Suitcase Deadlift
The Dumbbell Suitcase Deadlift is a one-sided hinge performed with the weight beside the foot. The hamstrings and glutes extend the hips while the back and forearms support the load. Because the dumbbell is held on only one side, the torso must resist bending or rotating toward it.
Training context
Muscles worked by the Suitcase Deadlift
The hamstrings and glutes drive the hip extension while the lower back and abdominal wall maintain torso position. The forearms and hand secure the dumbbell.
The offset load is a defining feature. If the shoulders tilt or the torso twists, reduce the weight or range.
Technique overview
Keep both shoulders level
Place the dumbbell beside one foot and hinge down with the hips moving backward. Grip the weight without rotating the chest. Push through the floor to stand while keeping both shoulders level. Lower beside the same foot under control, then repeat the setup on the other side.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
