Hamstring Stretch

This Hamstring Stretch is performed lying on the back with a strap looped around one raised foot. The strap helps support the leg while the hamstrings and calf move into a mild stretch. The opposite leg remains extended on the floor.

Training context

Keeping the Hamstring Stretch Controlled

The raised leg does not need to reach a perfect 90-degree angle. Hip position, knee comfort, and individual mobility determine the appropriate range.

Pulling the toes toward the body increases tension through the calf as well as the hamstrings. Reduce that ankle position when the goal is to emphasize the back of the thigh.

Technique overview

Use the strap to support, not force, the leg

Lie with one leg on the floor and loop the strap around the opposite foot. Raise the leg until a mild stretch is felt while keeping the pelvis level. Maintain a soft or comfortably straight knee and breathe normally. Release the tension gradually before switching sides.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
