Incline Push-Up Reverse Grip
The Reverse-Grip Incline Push-Up uses an underhand grip on an elevated bar. The chest provides the main effort while the abdominals, shoulders, and triceps help support and press the body. The grip creates more wrist and forearm rotation than a standard push-up.
Training context
Before Adding the Reverse-Grip Incline Push-Up
This variation requires a bar that can be held safely with the palms facing upward. A flat bench or wide platform may not allow the same secure wrist position.
The grip may be uncomfortable for some wrists, elbows, or shoulders. Use a higher bar, reduce the range, or choose a neutral-grip alternative when necessary.
Technique overview
Keep the wrists securely beneath the hands
Lock the Smith machine bar or use another fixed support. Take an underhand grip around shoulder width and walk the feet backward. Lower the chest toward the bar while keeping the body aligned, then press away smoothly. Stop if the wrists begin slipping or the elbows are forced into an uncomfortable path.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
