Exercise guide

Incline Push-Up Wide

The Wide Incline Push-Up places the hands farther apart than shoulder width on an elevated support. The chest remains the primary pressing muscle while the shoulders, triceps, and abdominals assist with movement and body position.

Training context

Muscles Worked by Wide Incline Push-Ups

A wider hand position changes the elbow and shoulder path compared with a standard push-up. It may increase the chest's contribution, but it can also demand more shoulder mobility.

The hands should not be placed so wide that the elbows cannot bend comfortably or the shoulders feel compressed. A modest increase beyond shoulder width is usually enough.

Technique overview

Use a wide grip that still allows control

Place the hands evenly on the elevated surface and step the feet backward. Lower the chest while the elbows move outward through a comfortable angle. Press away without allowing the hips to sag or the shoulders to roll forward. Narrow the hands if the bottom position feels strained.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
