Exercise guide
Kettlebell Dead Clean
The Kettlebell Dead Clean begins with the bell resting on the floor between the feet. The athlete extends through the legs and hips, guides the kettlebell upward, and receives it in the shoulder rack. The hamstrings, glutes, quadriceps, calves, back, and traps contribute to the lift.
Training context
Keeping the Dead Clean Controlled
Unlike a Hang Clean, every repetition begins from a dead stop on the floor. This removes the backswing and requires the athlete to produce force from a reset position.
The kettlebell should travel close to the body and wrap around the forearm. Pulling it in a large arc often causes the bell to crash against the wrist.
Technique overview
Guide the bell into the rack
Set the hips back and grip the kettlebell from the floor. Drive through the legs and hips while keeping the bell close. As it rises, guide the hand around the handle and receive the bell softly against the forearm. Lower it under control and reset it on the floor before repeating.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
