Exercise guide

Lying Hamstring

The Lying Hamstring stretch uses a partner-assisted contract-relax method. The athlete attempts to bend the knee against resistance, then relaxes while the partner guides the straight leg closer to the torso.

Training context

Using the Partner Hamstring Stretch

The partner should support the leg without pressing directly through the knee joint. The opposite leg and pelvis should remain settled on the floor.

Only moderate contraction is needed. The stretch should stop before the pelvis lifts, the knee bends unexpectedly, or tension becomes painful.

Technique overview

Keep the pelvis grounded during the stretch

Raise one leg while the partner supports it securely. Attempt to bend the knee gently as the partner prevents movement. Relax, then allow the leg to move slightly closer to the torso while the knee remains comfortable. Lower slowly and repeat on the opposite side.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
