Exercise guide
Machine Chest Fly (plate loaded)
The plate-loaded Machine Chest Fly guides the arms through a wide arc while the torso remains supported. The chest draws the handles together and the shoulders stabilize the movement.
Training context
Setup Cues for the Plate-Loaded Chest Fly
Adjust the seat so the handles align near the middle of the chest and the shoulders do not begin excessively far behind the torso. Load both machine arms evenly unless performing an intentional one-sided variation.
The elbows should retain a soft, consistent bend. Turning the movement into a press by repeatedly bending and straightening them changes the exercise.
Technique overview
Bring the arms together through a wide arc
Sit with the chest lifted and back supported. Draw the handles inward while keeping the elbow angle steady. Pause before the shoulders roll forward, then return slowly until a comfortable chest stretch is reached.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
