Exercise guide
Muscle Snatch
The Muscle Snatch is an Olympic lifting drill that moves a wide-grip barbell from the thighs to overhead without rebending the knees to receive it. The legs and hips accelerate the bar, while the shoulders and triceps finish the lift.
Training context
How the Muscle Snatch Differs
Unlike a full snatch or power snatch, the athlete does not drop beneath the bar. The bar continues upward as the elbows turn over and the arms press to a stable overhead position.
The exercise is best practiced with light loads. It develops bar path and turnover mechanics rather than maximum snatch strength.
Technique overview
Keep the bar close through the turnover
Start with a wide grip and the bar at mid-thigh. Extend the hips, knees, and ankles to accelerate it upward while keeping it close to the body. Guide the elbows up and around, then finish with the bar locked overhead without rebending the knees.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
