One-Arm Open Palm Kettlebell Clean
The One-Arm Open Palm Kettlebell Clean is an advanced juggling-style lift. The athlete releases the handle, receives the body of the kettlebell in an open palm, then releases it again to recatch the handle.
Training context
Using the Open-Palm Clean Safely
This drill carries considerably more risk than a standard kettlebell clean. A missed catch can injure the hand, wrist, forearm, or foot, and the bell may travel unpredictably.
It should be practiced only by experienced kettlebell athletes in an open area with a very light bell. A normal clean provides a safer option for most training goals.
Technique overview
Practice the release with minimal height
Use a light kettlebell and a completely clear training area. Drive the bell upward with the hips, release only when it is nearly weightless, and receive it softly in the palm. Send it slightly forward, recatch the handle, and guide it down. Stop immediately when the catch becomes uncertain.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
