Exercise guide

Plyo Kettlebell Pushups

Plyo Kettlebell Pushups are an advanced explosive pushup variation with one hand elevated on a kettlebell. The athlete pushes forcefully enough to switch the elevated hand while airborne.

Training context

Muscles Used in Plyo Kettlebell Pushups

The chest, shoulders, and triceps create the explosive press, while the trunk stabilizes the uneven hand position. The exercise also requires rapid landing control through the wrists and shoulders.

A kettlebell can tip, slide, or rotate during the hand switch. Stable plyometric pushups over a low fixed platform are a safer progression for most athletes.

Technique overview

Use a stable platform before attempting hand switches

Only attempt the supplied version with a kettlebell that cannot roll or tip and on a nonslip surface. Lower through a controlled pushup, press explosively, and place the opposite hand securely before descending again. Stop immediately if the kettlebell shifts, the landing becomes uncertain, or the wrists lose alignment.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
