Plyo Push-up
The Plyo Push-Up is an explosive bodyweight press in which the hands briefly leave the floor. The chest, shoulders, and triceps create the upward force, while the trunk keeps the body organized during takeoff and landing.
Training context
Muscles Worked by the Plyo Push-Up
The chest produces much of the pressing force, with the shoulders and triceps assisting. The abdominals and lower body also help maintain a rigid push-up position even though they are not listed in the source metadata.
Explosive height is useful only when the landing remains controlled. Begin with fast push-ups or hands-elevated plyometric push-ups before progressing to airborne repetitions or claps.
Technique overview
Land softly before beginning the next repetition
Start in a firm push-up position and lower through a comfortable range. Press into the floor as quickly as possible so the hands lift briefly, then land with softly bent elbows. Reestablish the body position before descending again. Stop when the landing becomes heavy, uneven, or difficult to control.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
