Exercise guide
Power Clean from Blocks
The Power Clean from Blocks begins with the bar elevated on sturdy blocks rather than on the floor. This shortens the pull and places greater emphasis on acceleration, extension, and the transition into the front rack.
Training context
Benefits of Power Cleans From Blocks
Block cleans can isolate a specific portion of the pull and reduce the demand of breaking the bar from the floor. Different block heights create meaningfully different exercises, so the height should be recorded and repeated.
The blocks must be stable, level, and designed to receive a loaded bar. Returning the bar should not cause the blocks to shift or rebound.
Technique overview
Accelerate from the blocks without rushing the catch
Set the bar over the middle of the feet with the shoulders slightly forward and arms straight. Extend through the legs and hips, keep the bar close, and finish tall before pulling beneath it. Rotate the elbows quickly into the rack, stand, then return the bar carefully to the blocks.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
