Exercise guide
Power Stairs
Power Stairs are a strongman event in which a heavy implement is lifted and loaded onto a series of elevated steps. The hips and legs create most of the upward drive, while the back, traps, shoulders, and grip control the implement.
Training context
How Power Stairs Differ From Standard Lifts
The athlete must repeatedly lift an awkward object and move it onto a higher surface rather than simply reaching standing lockout. The implement, stair height, and loading surface all change the difficulty.
This exercise requires purpose-built equipment, a clear stair structure, and enough space for the implement to settle. Ordinary stairs, unstable boxes, or improvised heavy objects are not appropriate.
Technique overview
Plan each pickup and landing point
Take a wide, stable stance and grip the implement securely. Extend through the hips and knees to raise it, then use the legs and body position to guide it onto the next step. Confirm that the implement is settled before repositioning for another lift. Speed should never replace control of the loading area.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
