Push Up to Side Plank
The Push-Up to Side Plank combines a chest press with an alternating trunk rotation. The chest, shoulders, and triceps complete the push-up, while the abdominals and shoulder stabilize the side-plank position.
Training context
Setup Cues for the Push-Up to Side Plank
Begin with enough space to rotate either arm toward the ceiling. A slightly wider foot position can make the side-plank transition more stable.
The rotation should begin only after the push-up has returned to the top. Turning while still pressing can place the supporting shoulder in a less stable position.
Technique overview
Complete the push-up before rotating
Lower and press through one controlled push-up. At the top, shift onto one hand and rotate the feet and torso into a side plank as the free arm reaches upward. Return the hand to the floor, reset the plank, and complete the next push-up before rotating to the other side.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
