Exercise guide
Pushups
Pushups are a bodyweight pressing exercise that primarily train the chest, with the shoulders and triceps assisting. The hands and feet stay on the floor while the torso lowers and rises as one unit. Since no external resistance is required, pushups can move easily between home workouts, gym warm-ups, and higher-repetition strength work.
Training context
Why are Pushups a useful exercise?
Pushups provide a pressing exercise without a bench, rack, or barbell. They also give clear feedback: if the torso changes shape or one side reaches the floor first, the repetition is no longer as consistent. Hand placement and body angle can change the difficulty.
Pushups can lead a bodyweight workout, support heavier chest training, or work as a quick practice exercise. Progress can come from cleaner repetitions and a larger controlled range, not only from adding more reps.
Technique overview
Move the torso as one connected unit
Set the hands securely, extend the legs, and establish the body position before bending the elbows. Lower the chest toward the floor while keeping the hips from arriving early or trailing behind. Press back to the top without letting the shoulders shrug toward the ears. Use a hand width and depth you can repeat. When the torso starts sagging or the range shortens sharply, the set has reached a useful stopping point.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
