Romanian Deadlift from Deficit
The Romanian Deadlift from a Deficit is performed while standing on a raised platform, allowing the bar to travel lower relative to the feet. The hamstrings and glutes remain the main movers while the grip, traps, and lower back support the lift.
Training context
How the Deficit Romanian Deadlift Differs
The platform does not automatically improve the exercise. It is useful only when the lifter can use the added range without rounding, shifting the knees, or allowing the bar to leave the legs.
Platform height should be modest, stable, and recorded. A standard Romanian deadlift already provides sufficient range for many lifters.
Technique overview
Earn the extra range through control
Stand securely on the platform with the bar against the thighs. Maintain a slight knee bend and push the hips backward as the bar stays close. Stop before the torso or pelvic position changes, then drive the hips forward to stand. Reduce the platform height if the added depth cannot be repeated cleanly.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
