Exercise guide
Seated Hamstring
The Seated Hamstring stretch uses straight legs and a forward torso hinge while a partner controls the shoulders. The hamstrings and calves may be stretched depending on the knee and ankle positions.
Training context
Before Using Partner Assistance
The athlete should first establish a comfortable unassisted forward range. The partner's role is to provide light resistance and a small increase in the hinge, not to push the torso toward the legs.
Pressure should stop immediately for pain, tingling, numbness, or a sharp pulling sensation behind the knees.
Technique overview
Let the athlete determine the final range
Sit with the legs extended and hinge forward slightly. Press backward into the partner's hands without moving, then relax. The partner may guide the shoulders forward only a small amount while the knees and breathing remain comfortable.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
