Exercise guide
Smith Machine Bench Press
The Smith Machine Bench Press trains the chest with assistance from the shoulders and triceps. The guided bar path reduces the need to balance the bar but makes bench positioning especially important.
Training context
Benefits of the Smith Bench Press
The hooks allow the bar to be racked at several points and can make solo setup more manageable. The fixed path may also help users focus on pressing effort rather than bar balance.
Set the safety stops before loading heavily. Move the bench until the bar reaches a comfortable point on the chest without forcing the shoulders forward.
Technique overview
Press through the machine's natural path
Lie with the feet planted, shoulder blades supported, and bar aligned over the chest. Unhook the bar, lower it under control to a comfortable touch point, and press upward without allowing the shoulders or hips to shift. Rotate the bar securely into both hooks after the final repetition.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
