Exercise guide

Standing Cable Chest Press

The Standing Cable Chest Press trains the chest, shoulders, and triceps while the lower body and trunk stabilize against the backward pull of the cables.

Training context

How the Standing Cable Press Differs

Unlike a bench press, the torso is unsupported and must resist movement in every direction. A staggered stance can make the setup easier to control.

Pulley height and distance from the towers affect the pressing angle. Record both when comparing sessions.

Technique overview

Press while the stance remains fixed

Stand forward of the pulleys with tension in both cables and handles near the chest. Brace the torso and press the hands forward, allowing them to move slightly together. Return slowly until the elbows reach a comfortable position without being pulled behind the body.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
