Exercise guide

Standing Hamstring and Calf Stretch

The Standing Hamstring and Calf Stretch uses a belt, band, or rope to draw the toes of the front foot toward the shin. The straight front knee and forward hinge emphasize the hamstrings while the strap increases the calf stretch.

Training context

Understanding the Combined Stretch

The back leg supports most of the body weight while the front heel remains grounded. The strap should guide the foot gently rather than pulling it forcefully.

Use a shorter stance or support the free hand when balance is limited. Keep the front knee softly extended rather than aggressively locked.

Technique overview

Hinge from the hips and pull gently

Loop the strap around one foot and place that heel forward. Bend the rear leg, raise the front toes, and hinge slightly toward the extended leg. Apply light strap tension, hold the position, and release before switching sides.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
