Exercise guide

Straight Bar Bench Mid Rows

Straight Bar Bench Mid Rows use a bent-over stance and barbell pull to train the middle back. The lats and biceps assist as the bar moves toward the torso and returns to the starting position.

Training context

Straight Bar Bench Mid Rows Explained

The exercise places the lifter above the bar so it can travel through a full pulling range without contacting the floor too early. The hips remain back and the torso stays braced while the shoulder blades and elbows guide the pull.

Only use a bench or raised surface that is wide, stable, and appropriate for standing. If balance or platform space is uncertain, choose a supported row variation that keeps both feet securely on the floor.

Technique overview

Keep the platform and torso stable

Set both feet securely before lifting the bar and hinge into a stable torso position. Pull the bar toward the abdomen by driving the elbows back and bringing the shoulder blades together. Pause without jerking the torso, then lower the bar until the arms are extended. Stop the set if foot position, balance, or spinal control begins to change.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
