Sumo Deadlift with Bands
The Sumo Deadlift with Bands adds accommodating resistance to the wide-stance deadlift. Band tension increases as the bar rises, while the hamstrings, adductors, glutes, quadriceps, back, traps, and forearms work through the pull.
Training context
Before Adding the Sumo Deadlift with Bands
Bands make the top of the movement more demanding and can pull the bar away from a consistent path if they are not anchored evenly. Use bands designed for loaded training and verify that both sides provide comparable tension before lifting.
Record the bar weight and band setup separately. Band type, anchor point, and stretch at the starting position can substantially change the resistance even when the plates remain the same.
Technique overview
Keep the bands centered under the bar
Set the bands evenly and confirm that they cannot slip from beneath the feet or anchor points. Establish the same sumo stance used for an unbanded pull, brace, and drive through the floor as the bar rises. Keep the bar centered as tension increases. Lower the weight under control so the bands do not pull the bar abruptly into the floor.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
