Exercise guide

The Straddle

The Straddle is a seated stretch performed with the legs open in a comfortable V. The hamstrings are the primary focus, while the adductors and calves may also be stretched depending on leg and foot position.

Training context

Before Adding The Straddle to Your Routine

The width of the legs should allow both knees to remain comfortable and the torso to begin upright. A wider position is not automatically better if it causes the hips to roll backward or the knees to strain.

Use the hands for light support and hinge forward from the hips. Hold a mild position without bouncing, then return upright before bringing the legs together.

Technique overview

Hinge forward without forcing the legs wider

Sit tall with the legs extended in a comfortable V and place the hands on the floor. Lean forward gradually while keeping the knees and feet settled. Stop at a manageable stretch through the hamstrings and inner thighs. Hold without bouncing and return upright slowly before changing the leg position.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
