Upper Back-Leg Grab
The Upper Back-Leg Grab is a seated stretch that combines a forward fold with an under-thigh hold. The hamstrings are the primary focus, while the lower and middle back may also be affected by the rounded position.
Training context
Upper Back-Leg Grab Explained
Holding beneath the thighs provides support as the torso moves toward the legs. The knees may remain softly bent if straightening them causes the pelvis to roll sharply backward or creates excessive tension.
A slight change in the upper-back position can shift the sensation away from the hamstrings. Move gradually and avoid pulling the torso down with the arms.
Technique overview
Fold forward without pulling aggressively
Sit with the legs together and reach beneath the thighs with both arms. Hinge and round forward only through a comfortable range, bringing the chest toward the legs without bouncing. To emphasize the middle back, maintain the hold while gently moving the upper back away from the knees. Return upright slowly before releasing the legs.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
