Exercise guide
Wide Stance Stiff Legs
Wide Stance Stiff Legs is a barbell hip-hinge variation performed with the feet set wider than a conventional stiff-legged deadlift. The hamstrings provide the primary emphasis, while the adductors, glutes, and lower back assist with hip movement and torso stability.
Training context
Before Adding Wide Stance Stiff Legs
The wider stance changes the hip position and may increase the demand on the inner thighs. Use a width that permits a strong grip and controlled hinge rather than forcing the feet as far apart as possible.
The bar does not need to reach the floor between repetitions. Stop the descent when the hamstrings and adductors limit the hinge or the back begins to round.
Technique overview
Hinge between the legs without forcing depth
Set a wide stance with the bar close to the feet and keep the knees softly bent. Push the hips backward while the arms hang straight and the bar remains close to the body. Drive the hips forward to stand without leaning backward. Use a range that keeps the feet planted and the spine controlled.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
