Exercise guide
Barbell Ab Rollout - On Knees
The Kneeling Barbell Ab Rollout uses a loaded barbell as a rolling handle. From the knees, you guide the bar forward while keeping the hips and torso controlled, then use the abdominals to return. The shoulders support the upper body as the bar moves away.
Training context
Muscles worked by the Kneeling Barbell Ab Rollout
The abdominals work to keep the ribs and pelvis controlled as the arms extend. The shoulders support the bar, while the lower back helps maintain the torso position.
The exercise becomes harder as the bar travels farther from the knees. Range is the easiest variable to adjust, so there is no need to reach the deepest possible position on every repetition.
Technique overview
Roll only as far as you can control
Kneel with both hands on the bar and begin with it beneath or slightly in front of your shoulders. Tighten your abs and glutes, then roll forward slowly. Stop before the lower back begins to sag or the hips drop. Pull the bar back without throwing the hips behind you, and keep the plates moving evenly on both sides.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
