Exercise guide
Cable Crunch
The Cable Crunch is a kneeling abdominal exercise performed beneath a high pulley with a rope attachment. The abdominals flex the torso against resistance while the hips remain relatively steady. The cable makes the load easy to adjust and track.
Training context
How is the Cable Crunch different?
Unlike a floor crunch, the cable provides adjustable resistance throughout the repetition. The exercise can become a hip hinge when the load is too heavy or the hips move backward and forward excessively.
Rope position should remain beside the head or upper shoulders rather than being pulled with the arms. The hands mainly hold the attachment in place.
Technique overview
Curl the ribs toward the pelvis
Kneel beneath the pulley and hold the rope beside your head. Keep the hips mostly still as you round the torso and bring the ribs toward the pelvis. Pause briefly, then return without allowing the stack to rest. Avoid pulling with the arms or using a large hip movement to lift the weight.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
