Exercise guide
Cable Curtsy Lunge
The Cable Curtsy Lunge uses a cable handle for resistance or support while one leg steps diagonally behind the other. The glutes provide the main effort, with the quadriceps and adductors assisting. The crossed stance creates a different hip angle from a standard reverse lunge.
Training context
Using the Cable Curtsy Lunge in a workout
The exercise can be used as unilateral glute work or as a lighter accessory movement after squats and lunges. The cable may be held in front of the body to provide resistance and help maintain balance.
The diagonal step should remain modest enough that the front foot and knee stay stable. A standard reverse lunge is preferable when the crossed position feels awkward or uncomfortable.
Technique overview
Keep the front foot planted
Hold the cable and step the working leg diagonally behind the body. Lower through the front hip and knee while keeping the front foot flat. Push through the front leg to return. Avoid crossing so far that the pelvis twists or the front knee collapses inward.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
