Exercise guide

Cable Single-Leg Kickback

The Cable Single-Leg Kickback is a standing hip-extension exercise performed with an ankle cuff and low pulley. The glutes move the working leg behind the body while the hamstrings assist. The stance leg and torso maintain balance throughout the set.

Training context

Setup cues for the Cable Single-Leg Kickback

Hold a stable support and stand far enough from the pulley to maintain tension at the starting position. The cable should travel cleanly behind the ankle without crossing the stance leg.

Use a light enough load to keep the pelvis facing the machine. A large range is unnecessary when the lower back or torso begins to move.

Technique overview

Extend the hip without swinging

Brace the torso and move the cuffed leg backward in a smooth arc. Keep a slight bend in the knee and stop when the glute is engaged without arching the lower back. Pause briefly, then return slowly. Complete the same setup and range on the opposite side.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
