Exercise guide
Decline Crunch
The Decline Crunch is an abdominal exercise performed with the head lower than the hips. The decline angle increases the resistance against the upper-body curl. Only the shoulder blades lift while the lower back remains in contact with the bench.
Training context
Benefits of the Decline Crunch
The bench angle makes a short crunch more challenging without requiring an external weight. The leg supports also help keep the body from sliding down the bench.
The exercise should remain a crunch rather than becoming a full decline sit-up. Raising the torso too far can shift more work toward the hips and encourage momentum.
Technique overview
Keep the lower back on the bench
Secure the legs and place the hands lightly beside the head. Curl the shoulder blades a few inches from the bench while keeping the lower back controlled. Pause briefly, then lower slowly without letting the head drop. Reduce the angle or range when the movement can no longer stay smooth.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
