Exercise guide
Dumbbell Lying Pronation
Despite its name and forearm classification, the supplied instructions describe a prone shoulder external-rotation exercise. The upper arm remains out to the side with the elbow bent while the forearm rotates around the shoulder joint. The movement does not describe traditional forearm pronation.
Training context
Understanding the supplied movement
The elbow remains bent near 90 degrees while the upper arm stays parallel to the floor. Moving the forearm from vertical toward horizontal changes the shoulder rotation angle.
This position can be demanding on the shoulder. Use very light resistance and stop before the shoulder, elbow, or wrist loses alignment.
Technique overview
Keep the upper arm fixed as the forearm rotates
Lie face down with the upper arm supported near shoulder height and the elbow bent. Rotate the forearm through a small comfortable range without lifting the chest or allowing the elbow to drift. Return slowly. Treat this as a light shoulder-control exercise rather than a heavy forearm movement.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
