Farmer's Walk
The Farmer’s Walk is a loaded carry performed by walking with heavy weights held at your sides. The forearms are primary, while the abdominals, glutes, hamstrings, lower back, quadriceps, and traps help support the walk. Distance, load, and how well you keep your position can all be tracked.
Training context
The main benefits of the Farmer’s Walk
A loaded carry asks you to hold the weights while the rest of the body keeps moving. The forearms manage the handles, the traps support the load, and the lower body produces each step. Dumbbells, short bars, and carry handles can all work.
The Farmer’s Walk can finish a strength session or have its own carry block. Keep the handle type and distance consistent when comparing workouts. End the carry before your grip, posture, or walking pattern breaks down.
Technique overview
Own the pickup before beginning the walk
Stand evenly between the implements, secure both grips, and lift by driving through the floor rather than jerking one side up first. Once upright, take controlled steps and leave enough space to turn or set the weights down safely. Keep breathing instead of bracing for the entire distance. If one implement drifts or the grip begins opening, finish the carry by placing both sides down under control.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
