Exercise guide
Glute Kickback Machine
The Glute Kickback Machine trains one leg at a time through resisted hip extension. The glutes provide the main effort while the hamstrings assist. The machine supports the torso and guides the foot or lower leg through a defined path.
Training context
How the Glute Kickback Machine Works
Machine designs vary, so the chest pad, handles, hip position, and working pad must be adjusted before loading the movement. The resistance should begin with the hip in a comfortable flexed position.
The working leg moves backward from the hip. The lower back should not arch to push the pad farther than the glutes can control.
Technique overview
Keep the pelvis facing the machine
Center the working foot or leg on the pad and secure the torso against the support. Drive the leg backward through hip extension while keeping the knee softly bent. Pause before the pelvis rotates or the back arches, then return slowly. Complete the set before switching sides.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
