Hanging Leg Raise
The Hanging Leg Raise is an advanced core exercise performed from a pull-up bar. The legs rise toward hip height while the abdominals help control the pelvis and the grip and shoulders support the hanging position. The hip flexors also contribute significantly even though they are not listed in the source muscles.
Training context
Benefits of the Hanging Leg Raise
The exercise challenges the abdominals while the body hangs freely without back support. Straight legs create a longer lever than bent-knee variations and therefore require more strength and control.
The legs do not need to reach a perfect 90-degree angle. Use the highest position that can be reached without swinging, leaning backward, or losing the grip.
Technique overview
Raise the legs without creating a swing
Begin from a controlled hang with the legs together. Slightly position the pelvis before lifting the legs toward the front. Pause at the highest controlled point, then lower slowly until the body returns to a quiet hang. End the set before momentum or grip fatigue controls the movement.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
