Exercise guide
Lateral Box Jump
The Lateral Box Jump moves upward and sideways onto a box positioned beside the athlete. The glutes, quadriceps, calves, hamstrings, abductors, and adductors produce the jump and absorb the landing.
Training context
Before Adding Lateral Box Jumps
Use a low, stable box with a non-slip surface and enough width for both feet. The height should allow the athlete to land on the center without tucking the knees excessively or reaching for the platform.
Repeatedly jumping down increases landing stress. Stepping down between repetitions is the safer default unless reactive drop landings are intentionally programmed for an experienced athlete.
Technique overview
Land completely on the platform
Stand beside the box and dip through the hips and knees. Jump upward and sideways, bringing both feet onto the center of the platform. Absorb the landing with the knees and hips, then stand stable. Step down carefully before repeating unless continuous jumps are specifically intended.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
