Leverage Shrug
The Leverage Shrug uses machine handles held beside the body while the shoulders elevate and lower through a compact range. The traps provide the main movement, while the forearms maintain the grip.
Training context
Why the Leverage Shrug Can Be Useful
The machine keeps the load beside the body and removes the need to hold a bar against the thighs. Some designs also provide a more natural hand position than a straight barbell.
The first lift from the machine stops is a pickup, not a shrug repetition. Establish a fully standing position before beginning the shoulder movement.
Technique overview
Move the shoulders straight upward
Lift the machine handles into a tall standing position with the arms long. Raise the shoulders toward the ears without bending the elbows or rolling the shoulders in circles. Pause briefly, lower through the same path, and set the machine down under control after the final repetition.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
