Exercise guide

Lying Bent Leg Groin

The Lying Bent Leg Groin stretch uses a butterfly position and a partner-assisted contract-relax method. The adductors first press inward against resistance and then relax as the knees move gently toward the floor.

Training context

How the Partner Groin Stretch Works

The partner should resist the inward squeeze without allowing the knees to move. After the contraction, pressure toward the floor should remain light and stop immediately when the athlete requests it.

This method should not be used as a contest to reach the floor. A self-controlled butterfly stretch is a simpler alternative when an experienced partner is unavailable.

Technique overview

Use communication throughout the stretch

Lie on the back with the soles together and knees open. Press the knees inward gently while the partner provides equal resistance. Relax fully, then allow the partner to guide the knees slightly lower. End the stretch before discomfort or loss of control.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
