Exercise guide
Lying Face Down Plate Neck Resistance
This exercise loads neck extension while the athlete lies face down with the head unsupported beyond a bench. The neck muscles raise the head against a plate held behind it.
Training context
Who Should Use Plate-Loaded Neck Extension?
This is an advanced neck exercise. The plate can slip, and the unsupported head position increases the consequences of losing control. Manual resistance, bands, a neck harness, or isometric holds may be safer starting options.
Use only very light resistance, a secure bench, and assistance from a knowledgeable spotter. Stop for pain, dizziness, headache, numbness, or tingling.
Technique overview
Use a small neck range and secure the plate
Lie face down with the shoulders near the bench edge and the head supported initially. Position a very light plate securely behind the head. Lower through a small comfortable range, then raise only until the neck returns to neutral. Keep the torso still and never let go of the plate.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
