Exercise guide

Lying Glute

The Lying Glute stretch places one hip in a figure-four-like position while a partner controls the knee and ankle. The athlete first presses against the partner and then relaxes into a slightly deeper glute and outer-hip stretch.

Training context

Keeping the Lying Glute Stretch Controlled

The partner should stabilize the leg without twisting the knee. Pressure should be directed through the hip position and stopped immediately when the athlete reports enough tension.

The contraction does not need to be maximal. A moderate effort is sufficient before relaxing into the stretch.

Technique overview

Control both the knee and ankle

Position the working leg across the body with the hip rotated and knee bent. Press the leg gently into the partner's resistance without allowing movement. Relax fully, then allow the partner to guide the knee and ankle slightly toward the torso. Return slowly before switching sides.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
