Oblique Crunches - On The Floor
This floor variation places the athlete on one side and lifts the upper torso through a short side-crunch motion. The abdominal muscles, particularly the obliques, create and control the movement.
Training context
Muscles Worked by Side-Lying Oblique Crunches
The obliques on the upper side shorten as the shoulder and ribs lift away from the floor. The movement is naturally small and should not require pulling on the head.
Keep the legs stacked and use the lower arm for balance if needed. Complete both sides with a similar setup and range.
Technique overview
Lift the ribs without pulling the neck
Lie on one side with the knees slightly bent and legs stacked. Place the upper hand lightly behind the head, then lift the upper shoulder and ribs through a short crunch. Pause briefly and lower under control before changing sides.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
