Exercise guide
Plate Pinch
The Plate Pinch is an isometric grip exercise in which the fingers and thumb squeeze plates together. The forearm and hand muscles maintain the pinch while the load is held off the floor.
Training context
How the Plate Pinch Differs
Unlike a handle-based carry, the pinch relies on friction and thumb pressure against the flat plate surfaces. Smooth-sided plates increase the grip demand.
The supplied setup appears two-handed even though the final instruction says to switch arms. For a one-hand version, use plates light and small enough to control safely with one hand.
Technique overview
Keep the plates directly over a safe landing area
Press the plates together with the smooth sides facing outward and establish a firm finger-and-thumb pinch. Lift only high enough to clear the floor and hold without resting the plates against the body. Lower them before the grip opens unexpectedly and keep the feet outside the drop zone.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
