Exercise guide

Pull Through

The Cable Pull-Through is a hip-hinge exercise performed while facing away from a low pulley. The glutes and hamstrings extend the hips while the lower back and trunk maintain position.

Training context

Keeping the Pull-Through Controlled

The rope moves because the hips travel backward and then extend, not because the arms lift it. The knees remain softly bent but should not continue bending until the movement becomes a squat.

Step far enough from the pulley to maintain tension without allowing the weight stack to pull the body backward.

Technique overview

Move the hips back before standing tall

Straddle the cable and hold the rope between the legs with straight arms. Push the hips backward while keeping the feet planted and torso controlled. Drive the hips forward to stand, finishing without leaning backward or shrugging. Begin the next repetition by hinging again.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
