Exercise guide
Russian Twist
The Russian Twist is a seated bodyweight rotation exercise for the abdominals. The lower back and hip flexors also help maintain the leaned-back position.
Training context
Who May Find Russian Twists Useful?
The exercise may suit users who can hold a comfortable seated position while rotating without lower-back discomfort. Keeping the feet down usually provides more control than immediately lifting them.
A large range is not required. Excessive speed or reaching far toward the floor can shift the movement away from controlled trunk rotation.
Technique overview
Turn the torso without swinging the arms
Sit with the knees bent and lean back only as far as the trunk remains controlled. Hold the hands in front of the chest and rotate the ribs toward one side. Return through the center and repeat toward the other side without bouncing or allowing the knees to sway.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
