Exercise guide
Spell Caster
The Spell Caster moves two dumbbells from one side of the body to the other with the arms extended. The abdominals control trunk rotation while the shoulders and glutes stabilize the position.
Training context
Before Adding Spell Casters
Because the dumbbells sit far from the body, even a light load can create substantial leverage through the shoulders and trunk. Begin conservatively and clear enough space for the full arc.
The hips may rotate slightly with the torso rather than remaining rigid while the lower back twists. Stop if momentum takes over the movement.
Technique overview
Rotate as one unit instead of swinging the arms
Stand with a wide, stable stance and hold both dumbbells together near one hip. Move them across the body by rotating through the torso and hips while the arms remain softly extended. Decelerate at each side and reverse direction without jerking the lower back or shoulders.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
