Standing Lateral Stretch exercise guide

Exercise guide

Standing Lateral Stretch

The Standing Lateral Stretch bends the torso gently to one side while the opposite arm reaches overhead. The side of the abdominal wall and surrounding trunk tissues are the main focus.

Training context

Keeping the Standing Lateral Stretch Controlled

Keep weight distributed between both feet instead of shifting the hips far in the opposite direction. The movement should remain primarily through the side of the torso.

A small range is often enough. Avoid twisting forward or backward while side bending.

Technique overview

Lengthen upward before bending sideways

Stand with a wide, stable base and raise one arm overhead. Reach upward, then incline the torso gently to the opposite side without shifting most of the weight into one hip. Return upright slowly and repeat on the other side.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
