Exercise guide

Standing Olympic Plate Hand Squeeze

The Standing Olympic Plate Hand Squeeze uses rimmed weight plates to train finger and forearm strength. The biceps assist by holding the arms and plates in position.

Training context

Before Adding Plate Hand Squeezes

Use plates with a secure ridge and inspect them for oil, moisture, or damage. The fingers should never open far enough that the plate can slip free.

Begin with a very light plate and keep the feet clear of the potential drop area. A loading pin or grip trainer offers a more controlled alternative.

Technique overview

Maintain a secure grip throughout every repetition

Stand with one rimmed plate held at each side. Allow the plates to roll slightly toward the fingers only while a secure grip remains, then close the hands to draw them back into the palms. Stop before fatigue makes either plate unstable.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
