Exercise guide

Wrist Rotations with Straight Bar

Wrist Rotations with Straight Bar use alternating hand movements to roll the bar forward and backward. The forearms control the small wrist actions while the elbows and shoulders support the bar.

Training context

Setup Cues for Wrist Rotations with a Straight Bar

Use a very light bar that can remain balanced while each hand moves independently. The short rotation should come from the wrists rather than from rolling the shoulders or shifting the elbows.

A fixed lightweight bar is easier to control than a heavily loaded barbell. Stop before grip fatigue makes the bar unstable.

Technique overview

Keep the bar level as the wrists alternate

Hold the bar with an overhand shoulder-width grip and support it in front of the body. Extend one wrist while the other hand stabilizes, then alternate sides in a smooth rolling pattern. Reverse the direction using controlled wrist flexion. End the set before the bar tilts or begins slipping in the hands.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
