Exercise guide
Anterior Tibialis-SMR
Anterior Tibialis SMR is a self-massage drill for the muscles along the front and outer portion of the shin. A muscle roller or similar tool is moved between the area below the knee and the area above the ankle. The pressure should remain manageable enough that you can keep the leg relaxed.
Training context
Keeping Anterior Tibialis SMR controlled
The goal is to move across the soft tissue beside the shin bone rather than pressing directly into the bone itself. A slow pass makes it easier to identify sensitive areas without applying excessive pressure.
This drill may be used after lower-leg activity or as part of a mobility session. Start lightly, especially if the area is unfamiliar or sensitive.
Technique overview
Roll beside the shin bone
Sit with your knees bent and place the roller against the muscles along the front or outside of one shin. Move slowly from below the knee to above the ankle, avoiding direct pressure on the joints and shin bone. Pause on tight areas for 10 to 30 seconds, reduce pressure if you feel sharp pain, and repeat on the other leg.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
